PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic sintered compact having function to detect the progress of oxidation, breakage, etc., or self-restoring function and also having satisfactory mechanical characteristics at high temp. and to provide a method for inspecting the ceramic sintered compact by which the oxidation, breakage, etc., of the ceramic sintered compact can be successively inspected during use. CONSTITUTION: A detecting medium which reacts to oxidation or breakage and causes a chemical or physical change is allowed to exist in a part close to the surface of a ceramic sintered compact. based on nonoxide ceramics or a ceramic sintered compact having a layered structure obtd. by forming a surface layer based on oxide ceramics on the surface of a substrate based on nonoxide ceramics. |
