PURPOSE: To enable the processing of a gear like member with a desired helix angle without the restriction of face width by setting a relative tilt angle between a workpiece and a wire electrode corresponding to a helix angle as an opposed uniaxial tilt angle. CONSTITUTION: A relative tilt angleθbetween a workpiece 26 and a wire electrode no corresponding to a helix angle to be machined is set as an opposed uniaxial tilt angle. In the coincident state of the uniaxial relative processing feed, speed and the feed speed by the rotation of the workpiece 26 on a gear base circle by the control rotation of the workpiece 26, wire electric discharge processing is performed to machine a first helical flute of V-shape cross section having a pair of opposed involute faces. This processing is repeated on the outer periphery of the workpiece 26 successively at the specified tooth space intervals so as to process the bottom of tooth paces with the helical flutes formed at the specified tooth space intervals.
