PURPOSE: To produce an outer layer material for a roll for hot rolling, combining surface roughing resistance with wear resistance, by providing a composition in which specific percentages of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Mo, V, and Nb are incorporated into Fe and contained components satisfy a specific inequality. CONSTITUTION: A steel, consisting of, by weight ratio, 2.5-4.0% C, <=1.5% Si, <=1.2% Mn, 6.0-20% Cr, 2.0-12% Mo, 3.0-10.0% V, 0.6-5.0% Nb, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and satisfying inequality 10(%)<6.5.C(%)-1.3.V(%)-0.7.Nb(%) <=2.Cr(%)-2(%), is prepared. By this method, the outer layer material for a roll for hot rolling, free from the occurrence of accidents such as breakage at the time of manufacture or rolling service, can be obtained. |
