PURPOSE: To obtain a homogeneous electroviscous fluid, producible at a low cost without any problems in settling and separation of particles and capable of manifesting stable and excellent responsiveness. CONSTITUTION: This homogeneous electroviscous fluid comprises a polymeric compound constituted of a hard segment comprising a low-molecular weight polymer and a soft segment comprising a low-molecular weight polymer. The polymeric compound has >=10<8>Ωvolume resistivity and >=1000 molecular weight. The fluid can stably be used for new compact actuators such as a valve, a clutch, a brake and a torque converter operated by electronic control for a long period and expected for development into servo control systems with a high accuracy. |
