PURPOSE: To prevent the tear from spreading to a body part even when the tear is generated from a slit to a sheet because the sheet is separate from the air bag body part by breaking the film, spreading the slit, and opening a vent hole when the inner pressure of an air bag exceeds the prescribed value. CONSTITUTION: A vent hole 5 is provided on the side of an air bag 1. A film 12 is attached to the inner side of he air bag of a patch cloth 6 so as to cover the whole slit 11. The air bag 1 for the front passenger seat is unfolded with the gas from an inflator to be introduced into the inner side through an opening 2. When the gas pressure in the unfolded air bag 1 exceeds the prescribed value, the film 12 is broken, and the vent hole 5 communicates the inner side of the air bag 1 with the outer side thereof. Because this patch cloth 6 is separate from the base cloth of the air bag 1, the tear does not spread to the base cloth of the air bag l even when the tear spreads in the patch cloth 6.
