DESULFURIZATION OF EXHAUST GAS DUE TO OXIDATION/REDUCTION MECHANISM AND FORMATION OF HYDROGEN AND SULFURIC ACID AS BYPRODUCTS

摘要

PURPOSE: To use an oxidation/reduction system in the desulfurization of sulfur oxide contained in exhaust gas and to obtain sulfuric acid and hydrogen as byproducts. CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas is brought into contact with a sulfur dioxide absorbing soln. obtained by dissolving iodine in water and iodine in the absorbing soln. is used as an oxidizing agent to oxidize and absorb sulfur dioxide gas and the formed mixed soln. of hydroiodic acid and sulfuric acid is separated into a part based on hydroiodic acid and a part based on sulfuric acid by a two-liquid layer separation process and the part based on hydroiodic acid is separated into hydrogen and iodine by electrolysis. Separated iodine is circulated to be reused as the sulfur dioxide absorbing soln. and hydrogen is recovered and sulfuric acid is conc. and formed from the part based on sulfuric acid.
