<p>PURPOSE: To obtain flat reduced iron powder having high deoxidizing function and fillable into a sterilized packing vessel, etc., by using iron powder having specified purity, particle size distribution and apparent density. CONSTITUTION: Iron ore from a tunnel kiln, a rotary kiln, etc., or mill scale produced in a rolling process in an iron mill is reduced with a reducing agent such as coal or coke and the resultant primarily reduced iron powder is used as starting material. The metal iron content of the iron powder is usually regulated to 85-98wt.%. Oil as a flattening accelerator is added to the iron powder by 0.05-1.0wt.% and the iron powder is mechanically pulverized to obtain iron powder having 1.0-1.8g/cm<3> apparent density and <=25μm median particle diameter and contg. <=40vol.% powder having <=10μm particle diameter. This iron powder is subjected to finish reduction by heat treatment at, 250-600 deg.C.</p> |
