PURPOSE: To reduce costs while restraining the generation of abnormal sound and improving the abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION: In a worm gear device composed of a worm 1 and a worm wheel 2, the worm 1 is made of metallic materials, and the worm wheel 2 is made of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene having the mean molecular weight of 1×10<6> or more. Thereby, the generation of abnormal sound is drastically decreased in comparison with the case where the worm 1 and the worm wheel 2 are made of metallic materials, and the abrasion resistance is drastically improved in comparison with the conventional device. Moreover, the worm wheel 2 can be formed by the general injection molding, compression molding, cutting work, etc., and any special device is not required.
