The invention relates to a calender, which comprises a calender frame 11, and four rolls 12, 17, 22, 24 in the calender frame arranged on one another in such a way that the two uppermost rolls of the rolls in question, that is the first and the second roll 12, 17 can be arranged in nip contact with one another in order to form a first calendering nip N1, whilst the bottom rolls, that is the third and fourth roll 22, 24 can be correspondingly arranged in nip contact with one another in order to form a second calendering nip N2. A paper or cardboard web W is designed to run through the calendering nips N1, N2 for calendering of the said web W, which calendering nips N1, N2 can be opened in an open position for threading the web. At least one of the calender rolls 12, 17, 22, 24 is mounted in the frame 11 of the calender in such a way that the nip can be shifted between an open position and a threading position, so that when the roll in question is shifted into the threading position the web W can be fed through the calender 10, essentially in a straight line without stopping the calender. In shifting the roll in question from the threading position back to the calendering position the said roll is designed to guide and introduce the web W with it to the calendering nip/nips N1/N2. <IMAGE>
