The invention relates to a process for measuring a cylindrical piece, in which process the piece 10 to be measured is rotated, and pick-ups 22, 23, 24, which are fixed to the measuring frame 20 and of which there are at least three, are transferred at constant feed rate from the one end of the piece 10 to be measured to the other end, the distance of the pick-up from the surface of the piece 10 to be measured being measured on a spiral path, at desired measuring points P, with the pick-ups 22, 23, 24.
