[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a machine, such as a machine tool, having a displaceable element, such as a tool-holder, adapted to be moved in a straight line by a cam, the line passing through the centre of rotation of the cam, the cam-shaft is arranged to rotate through 90 degrees and the cam comprises an eccentric c mounted on the sleeve a keyed to the shaft b, and an eccentric d mounted on the eccentric c; the displaceable member is connected to the member i. The cam imparts a movement to the displaceable member, the increments of which diminish progressively for equal angular movements of the cam according to a selectable variable law. The feed stroke is adjustable by varying the position of the eccentric d to the eccentric c by a worm o engaging a quadrant n and the law is selected by varying the position of the eccentric c in the sleeve a by a worm e engaging a quadrant k. The device is applicable to feed movements of a tool-holder of a lathe, so that for equal angular movements of the cam, successive cuts are reduced. |
