A pump (p), controlled by humidity sensor (CH), forces water from a reservoir (2), via perforated tubing (t), into microporous evaporator sheet (1) - e.g. Goretex (RTM) fabric - wrapped around each of several parallel aluminium tubes (3). These, mounted fore-and-aft on transverse roof-bars (BT), feed cooled air, via a flexible collector tube (4), forward along the roof edge into a separately mounted nozzle (5) discharging into the interior through the driver's window. In one variant, the evaporator sheet, screened above from sunlight, is laid directly on the vehicle roof, which unlined, forms a heat-exchanger; in another, the reservoir, itself microporous, extends over the whole roof, and the cooled contents are pumped through the car heater heat-exchanger, the associated fan circulating cooled air.
