The burner operates with liquefied or natural gas. It comprises a bar (3) which incorporates a number of outlets (5) for the mixture of gas and air. A nozzle (1) which is aimed at the bar supplies the gas. There is a covering slide (4) at least partly enclosing the bar, which shuts off a variable number of outlets. Where there are a number of bars supplied with different kinds of gas via nozzles, the supply to some of them can be shut off by shutting the respective nozzles.
