A method of preparing selected chemical compounds, the method comprising the steps of (a) generating a database of three-dimensional chemical structures by selecting appropriate organic molecules of a known structure as starting compounds and combining two or more of such organic molecules by one or more well-defined chemical reactions to form three-dimensional chemical structures, (b) defining search criteria for identifying potentially active compounds and conducting a search for hits, (c) selecting and synthesizing one or more chemical structures from the hits found in step (b) and (d) testing the selected chemical compounds synthesized in step (c) for activity.
