Compounds represented by the general formula (I): (where R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a straight-chained or branched alkoxycarbonyl group having 1 - 6 carbon atoms in which the alkyl portion may optionally have a substituent, or an optionally substituted straight-chained or branched acyl group having 1 - 9 carbon atoms; R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted straight-chained or branched alkyl group having 1 - 6 carbon atoms; R3 denotes an optionally substituted straight-chained or branched alkyl group having 1 - 6 carbon atoms or an optionally substituted straight-chained or branched alkenyl group having 2 - 6 carbon atoms; R4 denotes a hydrogen atom; or alternatively R3 and R4 may combine together to form an optionally substituted 5- to 7-membered ring; and n denotes an integer of 2 - 4, provided that when R3 is a methyl group, n is not 3 at the same time) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds have a potent inhibitory effect on nitric oxide synthase and are useful as therapeutics of cerebrovascular disorders or as those of hypotension in sepsis.
