Connecting optical waveguides contained in at least one outer sleeve

To connect optical waveguides contained in at least one outer sleeve (UH11), the waveguides (LW11) are released from their respective sleeves on either side of the intended splice point (SP). A connection part (AT1,AT2) is pushed over each waveguide (LW21,LW11) on either side of the splice point (SP). The connection part (AT1,AT2) in the respective sleeve (UH11,UH21) is temporarily pushed into an intermediate position so far that the waveguides are freely accessible for splicing, at least in the region of the splice point (SP). After the waveguides have been spliced, both connection parts are withdrawn from the sleeves over the waveguides to an end position. The connection parts are then mechanically connected together at their neighbouring ends.
