[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups II, XXVI and XXX] Apparatus for mixing and compressing thermoplastic material comprises an inner conical spiral member 1 turning about an axis parallel to its own axis but without rotating about this latter axis, in a chamber in the form of a conical spiral in a casing 2. The inner spiral member is of equal pitch but smaller diameter than the outer spiral member and the line of contact of the spirals moves round and displaces the material, fed into the inlet 12, into diminishing chambers formed between the spirals until it is discharged through the die 13. The pitch of the spirals may decrease or increase, to increase or decrease the pressure in the plastic material. The spiral 1 is driven by a worm wheel 6 mounted by means of roller bearings 8 and a thrust bearing 11. |
