The present invention pertains to a process for in vitro cultivation of trypanosome strains, the use of the resulting culture medium or fractions or components thereof to prepare a therapeutic agent, and a biological in vitro testing system for determining the effector substances which induce and/or inhibit the change of a rapidly dividing form of trypanosome into a form of trypanosome incapable of dividing.
