Avoiding open surgery in the treatment of gastric ischaemia

A prosthesis consists of a first tubular implant (2) with a side opening (7), a carrier (3) fastened to the outer surface of the tubular transplant (2), and a second tubular implant (8) fastened by one end to the side opening (7). The carrier (3) consists of a net which may be compressed and expanded. The first (2) and second (8) implants are made from material which includes Dacron (RTM: a polyester) and PTFE. The carrier is a metallic net, and a platinum wire (9) is arranged around the opening (7). The length of the first implant is 4-5 cm, and that of the second (8) is 0.5-1.5 cm. The first implant (2) tapers conically, and a wire (10) extends from the second (8). Also claimed are (i) treatment of diseases associated with the common iliac artery and the hypergastric artery (17), and (ii) the method of introduction and positioning within the artery, via the opposite main iliac artery using a catheter and balloon angioplasty.
