Pulse width modulated, high frequency discharge method

A disinfection, sterilisation, germ removal or antibacterial treatment method is operated in a space (1) at reduced pressure, into which the material (6) is introduced for treatment. High frequency pulsations are applied to two electrodes (3, 4), producing a gas discharge. The pulses have a narrow width, and large amplitude. Also claimed is the appts. used to carry out the above method where a second electrode (4) in the shape of a casing is arranged, in a chamber (1) at some distance from the first electrode (3), which receives the material (6) to be sterilised or disinfected and the wall of the chamber (1) wholly or partly forms the first electrode (3).
