Magneto-resistive head for reading signals from magnetic recording medium

The magnetoresistive head comprises a first ferromagnetic layer (13) of a soft magnetic material, a second ferromagnetic layer (15) of a Cobalt-Nickel-Iron alloy with 5-40 Atom-% Nickel and 30-95 Atom % Cobalt, a non-magnetic metal layer (14) between the layers (13,15) and an anti-ferromagnetic layer (16) in contact with the second ferromagnetic layer (15). The soft magnetic layer is made of a Cobalt-Nickel-Iron allow with proportions as above. The alloy has null magnetostriction. The second ferromagnetic layer (15) may be made of an Iron-Cobalt alloy.
