The receiver includes a memory (PM) divided into several areas (PMA1 to PMAn) each storing frequencies at which programmes are received from various transmitters. A unit (PI/Q) correlates the frequencies at which particular programmes are found on different transmitter regions, with the identity of the transmitter from which the receiver is currently receiving. A first selection element (PR) selects an area in memory and a second selection element selects a particular frequency stored in that area. This provides the frequency at which the best reception of the desired program is available.
