Cutting insert for form turning under different contact conditions

The insert has a rhomboid or triangular shape with at least one pointed cutting corner (11) having a cutting angle of <= 90 deg. pref. <= 60 deg.. The pointed cutting corner and/or a part of a major cutting edge (12) bordering on the pointed corner is reduced in relation to the base form envelope (10) and changes into a cutting protuberance on the end facing away from the corner. The outermost point of the protuberance lies on the envelope prescribed by the base form and to which joins at least one cutting recess (14,15) on the side facing away from the cutting corner.
