The device has a container (2) for a medium delivered and ejected under pressure, esp. a dielectric liquid. The container can cover at least part of the surface (6) of a workpiece . The container is arranged so that it is moved towards the workpiece surface by the effect of the flushing pressure. The container has a partly open section (32) of wall facing the workpiece surface. When the container is moved towards the workpiece surface, the surface closes the open wall section. The container can contain at least two elements (8,10), e.g. in cylindrical form, which slide wrt. each other vertically.
