SMELTING FERROUS MATERIALS

Cast iron is produced from an agglomerated intimate solid mixture of particulate ferruginous and carbonaceous materials wherein significant proportions of high reactivity and low reactivity carbon are provided in the carbonaceous material. The solid mixture is supplied in a controlled manner to a bath smelting furnace. Typically 10 to 50 % by weight of the carbonaceous material is in low reactivity form.
