PURPOSE:To make it possible to form an optical material having excellent optical properties, low hygroscopicity and good heat resistance, by using a polymer obtained by hydrogenating a polymer of a compound of a specified structural formula or a polymer obtained by copolymerizing this compound with another copolymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:This optical material is formed by hydrogenating a polymer of at least one compound of formula I or a polymer obtained by polymerizing this compound with another copolymerizable monomer. In formula I, A and B are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-10C hydrocarbon group, X and Y are each a hydrogen atom, a 1-10C hydrocarbon group or a halogen atom or a halogenated 1-10C hydrocarbon group or the like, and m is 0 or 1. Examples of said copolymerizable monomers include a monomer which can be polymerized through ring opening by a metathesis catalyst and a partially polymerized low-MW polymer having a C-C double bond in the main chain. |
