Method of controlling an internal combustion engine

The procedure for controlling an internal combustion engine (1) involves using an electronic system (7) controlling fuel injection, cooperating with sensors (8,9) detecting the operating conditions of the engine. The quantity of fuel to be injected is deduced from the operating conditions according to a given formula. During acceleration, the formula is corrected by weakening the quantity of fuel injected in order to produce a progressive acceleration without any jolt. The level and duration of the weakening of fuel injected is determined by estimating the strength of acceleration required.
