The method involves recovering a carrier signal from an AM IF signal without modulation sidebands. Further it requires integrating the recovered carrier signal to generate a carrier strength signal. Such action subsequently includes forming a reciprocal of the carrier strength signal. The method also entails multiplying the recovered carrier signal and the reciprocal to generate a normalised mixing signal. The normalised mixing signal and the AM IF signal are now mixed to recover the modulating signal. The carrier strength signal is then compared with a comparison signal. The AM IF signal is then modified by a gain factor in response to the comparison.
