A process is claimed for the prodn. of ethylene polymers (I) by polymerisation of ethylene (B) or copolymerisation of (B) with 3-20C 1-olefins at -60 to 200 deg.C and and 0.5-200 bar, in soln. suspension or gas phase, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metallocene as transition metal component and an aluminoxane of formula (R9)2Al-(Al(R9)-O)n -Al(R9)2 (linear type) and/or -(A1(R9)-On+2- (cyclic) (with R9 = R9 = 1-6C alkyl, Ph or benzyl, n = 2-50) the metallocene has the formula (II) M1 = Ti, Zr, V, Nb, or Ta, R1, R2 = H, Hal, 1-10C alk(ox)yl, 6-10C aryl(oxy) 2-10C alkenyl, 7-40C aralkyl or alkyaryl or 8-40C aralkenyl, R3, R4 = mono- or poly-nuclear hydrocarbon residue which can form a sandwich structure with the central M1 atom, R 5 = (M2R6R7)p--(CR6R7)p-, -CR6R7(M2R8)2)p-CR6R7-, -M2R6R7(C(R6)2)p-M2R6R7-, -M2R6R7-O-M2R6R7-, -OM2R6R7-, -M2R6R7-C(R8)2-, =Br6, =A1R6, -Ge-, -Sn-, -O-, -SO-, -SO2, =NR6, -CO-, =PR6 or =P(O)R6, (with R6, R7, R8 = 1-10C alk(oxy)yl, 1-10C fluoroalkyl, 6-10C aryl or fluoroaryl, 2-10C alkenyl, 7-40C aralkyl or alkylaryl, or 8-40C aralkenyl or R6 and R7 or R6 and R8 form a ring with the attached atoms, M2 = Si, Ge or Sn, p = 1, 2, 3 or 4, or 5). |
