PURPOSE: To accurately measure the sugar content of fruit in a non-destructive manner by a small-sized apparatus by irradiating fruit with laser beam having a specific wavelength from a wavelength variable laser device and calculating the absorbance of transmitted beam. CONSTITUTION: Fruit 5 is irradiated with the laser beam having a wavelength of 905-920nm or 950-1100nm emitted from a wavelength variable laser device (exciting light source 1 and optical parametric oscillator 2). The laser beam is transmitted through the fruit 5 and the absorbanceα1 of the transmitted beam is calculated by a computer 7. The fruit 5 is irradiated with the laser beam having a wavelength of 450-904nm, 921-949nm or 1101-1500nm emitted from the wavelength variable laser device. Next, the laser beam is transmitted through the fruit 5 to calculate absorbanceα2. Thereafter,α1-#2 is calculated as the evaluation value of the sugar content of the fruit 5. By this constitution, the sugar content of fruit can be measured without scaling up an apparatus. |
