PURPOSE: To obtain a recorder in which the detection of the residual amount of a recording agent does not affect normal recording operation by controlling the recording operation to stop during the detection of the residual amount of a recording agent. CONSTITUTION: When a recording head does not conduct recording operation, the switch circuit 15 closes its switch by the control signal which is sent from a control circuit 14 by a control signal line 102. In this process, a specified voltage is applied from a signal line 101. In this way, the signal level of a residual detection input signal 16 is made 'VZ' only for a given period necessary for the residual detection. In this stage, the residual amount of ink is detected by reading the output value from an output signal line 103 by a control circuit 14. Thereafter, the application of voltage is stopped through the signal line 101, and the switch circuit 15 opens its switch by the control signal which is sent from the control circuit 14 by the control signal line 102. In this way, the level of the residual detection input signal 16 is reduced so that the apparent potential of the input signal of the driving circuit of the recording head is recovered to a degree to prevent the malfunction of recording. |
