PURPOSE: To improve a method and device for decoding and/or elongating a plurality of different encoded input signals. CONSTITUTION: A multi-standard video decoder has a plurality of processing stages 36 which are connected to each other through two-wire interfaces 31 and 42 and arranged as pipeline processors. Control tokens and DATA tokens are transmitted through the interfaces 31 and 42 for transmitting both control and data in token format. A token decoding circuit 33 is placed on a specific stage for recognizing a specific token as the control token peculiar to the specific stage and for sending a nonrecognized control token along a pipeline. A reconstitution processing circuit is placed on a selected stage and handles a recognized identified DATA token by reconstituting the stage in response to the recognized control token.
