Self-baking carbon@ electrode with reduced internal pressure

A self-baking electrode, for an electric furnace or fused salt electrolysis cell, includes a top-charged carbon paste which is progressively baked as it descends between a cylindrical metal sleeve (2) and a central support (10) towards the furnace or cell, the novelty being that the sleeve interior is under a reduced pressure of 0.4-0.9 atmos.
