PURPOSE: To provide a light emitting diode array wherein each light emitting element can emit light independently and high luminous efficiency can be realized with extremely low current and provide a method for manufacturing such an array. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of light emitting elements are aligned on a first- conductivity-type substrate 1 and each light emitting element has at least a first-conductivity-type clad layer 3, an (Alx Ga1-x )In1-y P(0<=x<=1, 0<=y<=1) active layer 4, a second-conductivity-type clad layer 5, and a second-conductivity-type current diffusion layer 6, which are deposited on the substrate in this order. In each light emitting element, at least a part from the surface to the active layer 4 is removed by etching. Therefore, the light emitting elements are electrically separated from each other in that section. |
