PURPOSE: To obtain a sufficient belt life by providing a specific reinforcing member fixed at the end part in the width direction of an intermediate transfer body belt and made of a high polymer material. CONSTITUTION: The intermediate transfer body belt 2 is arranged in contact with or proximity to the surface of a photoreceptor drum 1 in a primary transfer position and rotated in the direction of the arrow B at a speed equal to the peripheral speed of the drum 1 by a driving roll 4. The reinforcing member 3 which is fixed on the intermediate transfer body belt 2 along at least one end part in the width direction of the belt 2 and made of the high polymer material whose modulus of bending elasticity is <=1×10<4> kgf/cm<2> and in a range of 1%-50% of the modulus of bending elasticity of the belt 2 is provided. Preferably, the reinforcing member 3 is stuck to the front/rear sides in the width direction of the belt 2 and moreover, can be provided only on the image receiving surface of the belt 2.
