OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR USING SAME

PURPOSE: To obtain a disk having high recording sensitivity and excellent in characteristics at the time of repeating recording and erasure and to provide a recording method by successively forming a 1st dielectric layer, a recording thin film layer, a 2nd dielectric layer and a reflecting layer on one side of a disk substrate 1 and specifying the thickness of each of the four layers from the viewpoint of optical and thermal properties. CONSTITUTION: A 2nd dielectric layer 4 is made thinner than a 1st dielectric layer 2, the thickness of the 2nd dielectric layer 4 is regulated to 35-70nm and that of a reflecting layer 5 is regulated to 70-120nm to enhance the recording sensitivity of the objective optical recording medium. The total thickness is regulated to 250-430nm. Compressive stress in the thin films is compensated by a protective layer 6 of an overcoating resin producing tensile stress. Tilting is suppressed, recording is performed while shifting a recording start position and the cycle characteristics of overwriting are improved.
