PURPOSE: To reduce in size the outfit of a snubber circuit and a cooler by making the DC output voltage of a power converter higher than an the nominal voltage of a DC trolley wire voltage at the maximum value or less of the varying range of the wire voltage. CONSTITUTION: The set value of the DC voltage of a PWM (pulse width modulation) converter 2 for converting an AC input voltage into a DC voltage, is made higher than the nominal voltage of a DC trolley wire voltage and the maximum value or less of the varying range of the wire voltage. Since the wire voltage is equal to the DC voltage in a DC section, it is necessary as the performance of a vehicle to operate at the DC trolley wire voltage varying range. Therefore, the withstand voltage and cooling performance in which the maximum value is considered in the varying range of the DC voltage are imparted. Thus, the maximum current of the converter 2 can be reduced, and the outfit of a snubber circuit and the cooler can be reduced in size. |
