PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of optically recording information with high fidelity. SOLUTION: The apparatus records an electric information signal by directing a focused high intensity laser beam write beam to a recording face. The apparatus comprises a substrate, an information storage member having a thin photosensitive surface layer covering the substrate, means for moving the number in a predetermined mode, a laser beam source for supplying a write light beam having a sufficiently strong intensity so as to cause reaction with the surface layer, an optical modulator for modulating the intensity of the write beam so that the write beam has a predetermined first intensity for forming a mark on the thin surface layer with the beam in response to the electric signal between the write beam and the thin surface layer and a predetermined second intensity which does not form any mark on the thin surface layer, and a feedback unit for stabilizing the operating level of the modulator to generate a write beam at a predetermined mean power level equal to the threshold value power level of the surface layer. |
