PURPOSE: To provide a vector quantization device capable of realizing quantization with less operation amount without deteriorating performance by switching a vector quantization means and a predictive vector quantization means according to an input vector. CONSTITUTION: A decision circuit 12 obtains a predictive error between the input vector and a predictive vector, and decides whether the vector quantization means 8 is used or the predictive vector quantization means 11 is used by using the predictive error. The vector quantization means 8 or the predictive vector quantization means 11 performs the quantization according to the decision result of the decision circuit 12. |
