Automatic needle retracting device, which renders syringes and perfusions harmless and unusable after first use, thereby eliminating any risk of accidental needle injuries and infection from serious diseases. The device of the invention is placed in the guard of the syringe or perfusion and automatically retracts the needle, inserting it into the plunger of the syringe or the emptied perfusion container. The device consists of a guard (8) through which passes a needle (28), in which is disposed a control element (13) integral with closure means (12) for holding the jaws of the stop (41) which is integral with the guard (8) so that the jaws, connected to one another by a resilient device, lock the rear needle portion (28). The guard (8) fits into the outer base portion of the container (24). Actuating means (35) are inserted into the inner base portion of the container (24). At the end of its travel, the actuating means (35) contacts the control element (13), the closure means (12) thereof disengaging the jaws of the stop (41) and releasing the needle (28) which is retracted rearwards under pressure supplied by the resilient device (4), pierces the membrane (37) and is inserted and becomes wedged in the conical opening of the plunger (35). The actuating means can be either the plunger (35), or a push-rod integral with the plunger when the control member (13) is outside the liquid container; or manually by acting directly on the control member (13) as in a perfusion. The device of the invention auto-retracts the needle into the hollow plunger of the syringe or into the emptied perfusion container, thereby eliminating the risk of accidental needle injuries.
