摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and a node which enable the optimum use of network resources and guarantee an adequate performance level of message transfer. SOLUTION: A flow of cross-connected ATM cells passes through a connection network PX of nodes successively twice. In the 1st passing, virtual channels of input virtual paths A, B and C is distributed into intermediate virtual channel bundles A' to C"'. The intermediate virtual channel bundles each have total peak bandwidth equal to the peak bandwidth of the original virtual path of contributing channels. Cross connections of the virtual channels are made between the 1st passing and 2nd passing, cells relating them are temporarily stored, and at the same time a cell flow relating to an output virtual path is formed. In the 2nd passing, the virtual paths are crossed and connected. The temporary storage and formation are carried out by a device SMS connected between the output and input of the connection network PX of the nodes.</p>
