PURPOSE: To make possible the encoding/decoding of a moving image and the generation/update of a representative moving image while using the stored representative moving image. CONSTITUTION: An encoder is composed of a representative moving image storage circuit 15 storing the representative moving image sequence of motion, motion information extracting circuit 10 for extracting the motion information of an object, correlation measuring circuit 13 for motion to calculate the correlation of the extracted motion information of the object and the motion information of the representative moving image, approximate representative moving image information output circuit 31 for deciding the representative moving image and the part of it to be reproduced, image scene extracting circuit 11 for the update of the representative moving image, motion frequency storage circuit 12 and representative moving image selecting circuit 14. On the other hand, a decoder is composed of a representative moving image storage circuit 32 storing the same representative moving image sequence as the encoder and a moving image selecting circuit 22 for selecting and outputting any image based on a representative moving image selection parameter 201. |
