The left-hand keyboard is arranged as two sub-keyboard groups, the first of which has three rows of vertical keys parallel with the key rows of the right-hand keyboard. The keys of the row of the first sub-group closest to the second sub-group give notes which are between one and five octaves lower, plus one semitone, than the corresponding keys of the second sub-group. The second sub-group has four rows of keys, with the keys of each row producing a note separated from the next key by an interval of a minor third, the notes becoming sharper in the vertically upward direction of the group. In a transverse and diagonally upward direction of the second sub-group the notes increase by a semitone. The fourth row of the second sub-group repeats the first row.
