<p>A tape dispenser (10) facilitates one hand dispensing of pressure sensitive adhesive tape (50) directly onto a substrate (52) and cutting of the tape immediately after dispensing about 1/8-1/4 inch off the substrate. The dispenser includes a plastic housing, preferably two piece (40, 41). The housing includes a first portion (11) which is a hollow interior substantially toroid-shaped substantially solid exterior portion for containing a roll of pressure sensitive adhesive tape. The housing second portion comprises a hollow interior arm (12) extending outwardly from the first portion having a distal part (20) to which a serrated (e.g. metal) blade (24) is mounted. The arm includes a first generally planar radially extending surface (19) and a second surface (21) which has a curved tape pressing portion (22) adjacent the blade and an opening (26) for the tape to pass out of the housing between the blade and the housing first portion. A projection (30) upstands from a proximate edge of the opening for engaging the adhesive surface of tape being dispensed, the projection having a small distal surface (31). Concentric tapered wall depressions (14) are provided at the center axis (13) of the substantially toroidal-shaped first portion to provide comfortable finger location areas and improved grip, and optionally centering action to the roll of tape on the hub.</p> |
