The umbrella (10) has roof bars (1) providing the tension and arranged star-fashion around the main handle (4) and linked to the crown (5). The bars are displaceably guided along the main handle and can be secured to it at the end turned away from the handle grip (22). The support stays (2) at one end are displaceably guided on the roof bars and at the other end on a slider (3) displaceably guided along the main handle. The closure and shortening of the umbrella are achieved by folding together the roof bars over the crown and insertion of the main handle between the folded together roof bars.
