A vehicle door lock device having an anti-theft mechanism comprises a motor 4 to change a locking lever into a locking poition I by a predetermined amount of normal rotation thereof, to change an anti-theft member into an anti-theft position II by a continuous normal rotation thereof beyond the predetermined amount, and to return the anti-theft member to an anti-theft cancelling position III by a reverse rotation thereof. A controller (46, Fig. 9) actuates the motor 4 to perform a locking operation of changing the locking lever into the locking position, an anti-theft operation of changing the anti-theft member into the anti-theft position, and an anti-theft cancelling operation of changing the anti-theft member into the anti-theft cancelling position. If the anti-theft position II of the anti-theft member is detected by a sensor (46, Fig. 9) after the locking operation, the controller (46, Fig. 9) is caused to perform the anti-theft cancelling operation. Unlocking position IV is shown. The controller may set a voltage to be supplied to the motor through a voltage changing circuit to that suitable for locking or anti-theft operation (Figs. 10, 11).
