Cooling system for motor vehicle IC engine

The coolant circuit for the engine has improved temperature control by regulating the air-flow through the radiator by using pitch control of the electrically powered fan (7). The pitch can be set to slow the air flowing through the radiator without requiring a radiator blind. The fan can also be braked. For improved ram effect cooling the fan blades can be feathered. A simple air-flow retarding process shorts the fan motor for ohmic braking. The fan can also be powered to produce an air flow counter to the ram effect air flow. A mechanical fan brake can also be employed.
