NASAL AND ORAL FILTERS

A nasal filter (10) for collecting inhaled particulate matter in the nose of person to allow identification of aeroallergens in the inhaled matter or to prevent disease states mediated by such aeroallergens. The nasal filter (10) has a body (15) adapted to fit within a person's nostril and to resiliently engage its inside wall. A passage (14) extends through the body (15) to allow air to be inhaled by the person through the filter (10). The passage (14) has a non-linear path and includes collection means (18). The collection means (18) is so placed in the passage (14) that it will be impacted by particulate matter entrained in inhaled air due to turbulence in the air caused by the non-linear nature of the passage (14). The particular matter collects on the collection means (18) for subsequent removal and analysis if desired. A similar particle entrapment device may be used to sample particulate matter inhaled through the mouth.
