Compsns. for descaling water-handling equipment

Compsns. for removing Fe- and/or Mn-contg. scale (also contg. Ca, Mg and Si cpds. and trace elements) from water-handling equipment comprise a combination of 10-90 wt.% L-tartaric acid (I) and 5-85 wt.% L-ascorbic acid (II). Also claimed is a process for cleaning water-handling equipment by introducing a compsn. as above in a concn. of 2-25 g/l and removing it when it has had time to act.
