alpha , alpha -Difluorobenzyl ether derivs. of formula (I) are new. R = a 1-15C alkyl or 2-15C alkenyl gp. which is opt. substd. by a CN or CF3 gp. or by one or more halogen atoms and in which one or more HC2 gps. may be replaced by O, S, 1,3-cyclobutylene, CO, COO, OCO and/or OCOO, provided that O atoms are non-adjacent; A1 and A2 = (a) trans-1,4-cyclohexylene in which one or more non-adjacent CH2 gps. may be replaced by O and/or S; (b) 1,4-phenylene in which 1-2 CH gps. may be replaced by N; (c) 1,4-cyclohexenylene; or (d) 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)octylene, piperidine-1,4-diyl, 2,6-naphthylene, decahydro-2,6-naphthylene or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,6-naphthylene; where gps. (a)-(c) are opt. mono- or polysubstd. by CN or F; Z1 and Z2 = COO, OCO, CH2O, OCH2, CH2CH2, CH=CH, ethynylene or single bonds, or one may also be (CH2)4 or CH=CHCH2CH2; L1 and L2 = H or F; m and n = 0 or 1; X = F, Cl or halogenated 1-6C alkyl, alkoxy or alkenyl.
